Lower gate on Farmington Canyon road open

Farmington Canyon road (Forest Service Road #007) is open to the intersection with the Francis Peak road (Forest service Road #009) and Skyline Drive
(Forest Service Road #008).

Due to snow and wet conditions, the Francis Peak road and Skyline Drive remain under a seasonal closure and gates will be locked until June 1st, weather permitting.

Please remember that during spring conditions roads and trails are wet and muddy, and can
sustain resource damage from recreation use.

Man wanted by U.S. Marshals arrested after Centerville chase

CENTERVILLE, Utah – A man wanted by U.S. Marshals was arrested after a chase on Sunday morning.

According to Centerville Police Sgt. Von Steenblik, an officer saw a driver of a Toyota 4-Runner acting suspicious at around 1:05 a.m. Sunday. When the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver entered a cul-de-sac in Centerville and turned off its lights.

Police say that when the officer approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, identified as 33-year-old Garrette Lopez, he could smell alcohol on Lopez’ breath. Lopez gave the officer a fake name and there were two children, a 14-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, inside the vehicle.

When other officers arrived, Lopez took off, leading police down Parrish Lane in Centerville onto Legacy Parkway. He ran out of gas near the interchange of Legacy Parkway and I-215.

‘Cheese mongers’ attempt mozzarella ball world record

FARMINGTON, Utah — Cheese experts from a local grocery chain attempted to set a world record Saturday for the largest mozzarella ball.

The attempt came at the end of Harmons Grocery’s three day cheese celebration, which featured a beer and cheese tasting.

The company’s “cheese mongers” aimed to create a 300-pound mozzarella ball, which they said was their way of showing their passion for cheese.

Cheese monger DJ Ross, who works at the company’s Station Park store in Farmington, said they filed their initial paperwork to the Guinness Book of World Records several weeks ago.

“Now it’s on us, you know, making sure that we’ve done everything by the book. I’ve brought a scale in. It’s calibrated. I even have authenticity of calibration or verification that it weighs accurate to the half pound,” Ross said.

Utah Girl Scouts collaborate with U. students on cabin design

The Girl Scouts, some as young as seven years old, gave their input on design elements such as paint color, wall coverings, window sizes, bed placement and bathroom facilities.

Three cabins have already been built at the organization’s Trefoil Ranch in Provo Canyon. Three more are expected to be built by the end of the summer.
