Davis Area CVB Promotes 'Tourism in your own Backyard' for all Davis County elementary students.

In 2005 the Davis Area CVB began a campaign “Have a Summer of Fun in Davis County” to help educate elementary students about tourism in Davis County by sending home over 35,000 flyers to every student at the end of the school year. The flyers list attractions, main events and cultural arts for students to visit through out the summer.

In 2006 a contest was added to encourage visitation and participation. All children that visited each of the venues received a validation stamp, brought in their flyer to the Davis Area CVB and received a Cool Prize. Their name was then entered into a Grand Prize Drawing to be eligible to win one of four Grand Prizes, a Lagoon Season Pass or a Cherry Hill Season Pass.

The campaign and contest have had a great response over the years not only from the kids but from the parents as well. This year the Davis Area CVB will be distributing over 43,000 flyers to the school district as well as the Davis County charter schools.

Davis County Commission approves funding for Davis County Dining Guide

This is a news release from Davis County.

Based on the recommendation from the Davis County Tourism Tax Advisory Board, Davis County Commissioners approved $11,983.00 in funding to support a Davis County Dining Guide and mobile site to the benefit of all restaurants, visitors to the area and local residents. The TTAB in their December 8, 2011 meeting, after hearing a presentation from the Davis Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, voted unanimously to ask the Commission to approve the requested $11,983.00 to fund the program.

The printed piece will be inclusive of every restaurant located within the county and for the ease of the consumer, be listed by cuisine, city and in one of four geographical zones, South Davis, Middle Davis, Layton and North Davis. The Davis Area CVB is managing the creation of the printed piece and will print 5,000 copies to be distributed throughout the county through the visitor center, local hotels, attractions and facilities by the end of February.

More horse herpes cases confirmed in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Authorities say seven cases of the horse herpes virus have been confirmed in Utah, with as many as eight more suspected cases.

Utah state veterinarian Bruce L. King says Monday a second horse has been euthanized after it could not stand in its stall over the weekend.

King says four facilities are under quarantine orders because of horses infected with Equine Herpes Virus-1. The horses are in Kane, Box Elder, Davis and Utah counties.

The virus began spreading after an event last month in Ogden. More than 30 horses in nine states and Canada have been infected and at least seven infected horses have died.

The Utah Department of Agriculture is not recommending cancellations of events featuring horses.

Tests Confirm 5 Utah Horses With Equine Herpes Virus

Lab results confirm five horses in Utah have the equine herpes virus. It's a highly contagious and often fatal disease. The outbreak started with a competition in Ogden earlier this month and has now spread through four western states and Canada. In Utah, three ranches have horses showing symptoms and are on a hold by Utah's state veterinarian. The five confirmed cases are all at one facility and quarantined. State veterinarian Bruce L. King says he is not mandating, but suggesting horse owners keep their animals at home. King says "If this spreads we could lose the whole summer as far as eventing goes. If we're a little more careful now hopefully that won't be the case."
