Former UHP officer facing charges of wrongful appropriation

SALT LAKE CITY - A retired Utah Highway Patrol trooper faces charges after allegedly giving his radar gun and taser to another officer.

65-year-old Martin Luther Turner, who retired from the UHP in January, faces one count of wrongful appropriation.

Charging documents say he gave the equipment to Thomas Decarlo, a West Bountiful Police officer. The charging documents also say Turner told an investigator he hoarded UHP equipment and the UHP office didn't keep a good inventory.

If convicted, Turner faces up to a year behind bars.

Serial burglary suspect arrested in Fruit Heights

FRUIT HEIGHTS, Utah - Davis County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man they say is a serial burglary suspect in the Fruit Heights area.

22-year-old Elliot Frasier allegedly tried to pawn some stolen goods, including firearms.

Police say Frasier tried to run when they came to his house to arrest him, but they caught up to him two blocks away.

20 lbs. of meth seized in Davis County

DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – Utah DEA agents have seized 20 pounds of methamphetamine and made one arrest in their latest battle against the Sinaloa Drug Cartel.

After weeks of undercover investigation, 43-year old Humberto Cuadras-Alvarez was busted August 7th in Davis County, as he allegedly unloaded a bag filled with methamphetamine.
 
The bricks inside later tested positive for meth and during a post-arrest interview, Cuadras-Alvarez told agents he brought the meth to Utah from California with the intent to sell it.

DEA Special Agent in charge for Utah, Frank Smith, says the drugs are worth more than $250,000 on the street.

The Utah bust led agents to a home near Los Angeles where agents arrested three more suspects, seized 500 pounds of marijuana and thousands in cash.

Nathan Sloop pleads not guilty

FARMINGTON, Utah - The man accused of killing 4-year-old Ethan Stacy pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

Nathan Sloop and his wife Stephanie are accused of beating her son so badly he died.

Ethan's body was found near Powder Mountain two years ago.

The Davis County Attorney says he's leaning toward the death penalty if the Sloops are convicted.

Police looking for suspect in W. Bountiful bank robbery

Police are looking for a man who robbed a West Bountiful US Bank on Tuesday morning.

Officers say the suspect gave the teller a note demanding money. The teller complied andt he man left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing black jeans, a blue shirt, black hat and sunglasses. He is about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with short black hair.

Police looking for two suspects in credit card theft

Police in Davis County are asking the public for help identifying two people who they say spent more than $6,000 with a stolen credit card.

In a press release, the Centerville Police Dept. says a credit card was stolen from a Costco in West Bountiful on Tuesday, May 1. Within 45 minutes, the credit card was used to purchase more than $6,000 in iPads, gift cards and an expensive camera at the Centerville and Layton Target stores.

Surveillance cameras at the Centerville store captured the two suspects as they left the store in a light-colored compact car.

Two students charged after explosion at Bountiful High

BOUNTIFUL - Two students are facing charges in connection with an explosion at Bountiful High School on Wednesday.

The school was placed on lockdown for about two hours after an explosion occurred at around 8:30 a.m. in a stairwell. Police say a student had mixed chemicals to make a water bottle explode.

"The bomb was a chemical-type bomb where a water bottle was used, and they put some chemicals in there which causes reaction, causes a bottle to expand, similar to a dry-ice bomb, and it exploded," said Sgt. Gary Koehn, Bountiful City Police Department.

Bountiful police questioned a 16-year-old girl and 18-year-old Chris Perry in connection with the incident, and the pair was later taken into custody for allegedly setting off four bombs, one inside the school, two inside and one at a nearby LDS church.
