South Davis County Relay for Life, July 8-9

The American Cancer Society invites you to join us in a touching ceremony to honor cancer survivors, thank caregivers, and to remember those we have lost to cancer at the South Davis County Relay for Life event this Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9.

This is a great opportunity to come together as a community and fight back against cancer. At dusk, we quietly remember those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Luminaria bags line the track, each bearing the name of a loved one. This ceremony of light symbolizes the hope and courage with which we all continue to fight cancer.

Bald eaglets prepare for first flight

Two eaglets are preparing for their first flights.

The pair of 10-week-old bald eagles live in a nest near the southeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake. Adult eagles have produced 34 eaglets over the last 14 years.

"Utah only has 11 known nesting pair of bald eagles statewide. That means it's taking a long time given that when I began which would've been way back in the mid-70s, I believe at that time we were only aware of one or two nesting paris. It's taken that long to get to 11 known nesting pairs of bald eagles," said Bob Walters, Watchable Wildlife Coordinator.

Walters will be hosting public tours Thursday and Saturday night. For more information, visit wildlife.utah.gov.
